Cliniko EFTPOS Integration: Accept Payments at Your Clinic Kiosk

Learn how to connect your Verifone EFTPOS terminal to Cliniko via BAITL so patients can pay outstanding invoices during self-service check-in.

The problem with clinic payments

Most clinics using Cliniko handle payments at the front desk — staff pull up invoices, process the card, and manually reconcile. During busy periods this creates bottlenecks and delays.

BAITL connects your EFTPOS terminal directly to the kiosk workflow. When a patient checks in, they can tap to pay any outstanding invoices on the spot.

How it works

Cliniko → BAITL → EFTPOS terminal

  1. Patient checks in at the kiosk by entering their surname and date of birth.
  2. BAITL fetches invoices from Cliniko for that patient.
  3. Patient selects invoices they want to pay.
  4. The EFTPOS terminal activates — the patient taps, inserts, or swipes their card.
  5. Payment is recorded against the invoice in BAITL with receipt details.

The whole flow takes under 60 seconds.

Setting up EFTPOS

Supported terminals

BAITL integrates with Verifone terminals via a cloud API. This means your terminal connects over your clinic's internet — no serial cables or POS software required.

Pairing your terminal

  1. Go to Settings → Payments → EFTPOS in your BAITL dashboard.
  2. Enter your terminal's serial number and click Pair Terminal.
  3. The terminal will display a confirmation prompt — accept the pairing.
  4. BAITL confirms the connection and you're ready to accept payments.

Testing

Before going live, run a test transaction. BAITL supports test mode where transactions are simulated without charging a real card.

Alternative payment methods

Not every patient wants to pay by card at the kiosk. BAITL also supports:

  • POLi — patients pay via their online banking app. Ideal for New Zealand and Australian banks.
  • Bank transfer — the kiosk displays your bank account details so patients can transfer later.
  • Cash — staff can record cash payments for reconciliation.

You can enable any combination of methods per clinic.

Reconciliation

All payments are logged in the BAITL dashboard with date, amount, method, and status. For bank transfers and cash, staff can bulk-reconcile payments once funds are confirmed.
